The New Year is looking very good indeed, with many people chalking up fresh health and fitness goals. What better way to challenge yourself and contribute to a good cause by taking on a hiking challenge in 2023?

1. London Winter Walk

Early training for the London Winter Walk Ultra Challenge is a fantastic way to start a new fitness regime. Either choose Full Marathon, Half Marathon or a 10k wrap up & walk on Saturday and Sunday.

2. Isle of Wight Challenge

The iconic Needles provides stunning views, sandy beaches and breathtaking cliffs – most people are aware of how the Island’s costal path makes for the perfect walking challenge. If you’re feeling brave, go for the ‘full island’ challenge over 106 kilometres, although half and quarter island options are also on offer along with camping packages.

3. Isle of Skye Challenge

Imagine a four-day adventure filled with the splendid views of iconic ridges, glens and the coastline. Climb one of the UK’s most challenging mountain ranges: the Black Cuillin. Take on one of the most dramatic ridge traverses known in Britain: the Trotternish Ridge. Positively calling out to hikers and walkers of all levels; dramatic volcanic landscapes are steeped in myth and adventure.

Each day, you can expect to trek anywhere between 14 and 18 kilometres, so it’s always good to go prepared with some of the best outdoor gear.

4. Big Hike Loch Lomond

Enter the event for just £25 – the money raised can help save lives. The full Loch Lomond route covers a total distance of 42.3 km, while the half route covers 21.7 km. Sign up and you’ll be provided with a fund-raising pack to help you reach your target – includes a free training pack.

5. Hadrian’s Wall Trek

Embark on an adventurous 25km trek along the historic UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hadrian’s Wall

Cutting through the Northumberland National Park, Hadrian’s Wall attracts trekkers from all over, as it offers challenging walks with a stunning backdrop.

World of Camping offers specialised walking and hiking gear for everyone from novice walkers to the most advanced hikers. From carbon walking poles and high-quality mosquito nets to rucksack rain covers, and compass keyrings; we’ve got everything you could possibly need to help you conquer your upcoming 2023 UK walking challenge. Good luck!

Before you embark on your adventure

Whether you want to embark on a charity walking event or take on a personal challenge, it’s very important to ensure that your fitness levels are up to standard. So, it’s a good idea to go for a physical to ensure that your vitals are good, but more importantly, you should research into the location you want to visit and educate yourself on the ‘emergency scenarios’ which may arise.
